The West Coast Fever will be looking for retribution over the Vixens this weekend as they take to Melbourne to compete for a spot in the Super Netball Grand Final.
After a heartbreaking loss at the end of last year’s postseason by a point to the Vixens, they now have a shot at redemption to end their rivals’ season and keep their season alive.
They defeated the Mavericks in front of a 12,000 strong crowd on Sunday to advance through to the preliminary round with physicality a key factor in the success.
Forcing three more turnovers that the hosts, Kadie-Ann Dehaney, Alice Teague-Neeld and Fran Williams set the tone with a high pressure brand of netball.
Fever GK Ruth Aryang joined Sports Breakfast this morning.
“The atmosphere, the game itself and just coming out on top with the win – I don’t think it could have got much better than what it was,” she said.
“Our ability to win the ball in defence and then capitalize off of them in attack… I think that’s when things started to kind of go on our terms.”
It was the Fever’s ability to capitalise on their chances which saw them pull away at the end of the game – Sasha Glasgow providing some breathing room with four from four from the super shot arc.

“She definitely set the tone for us in the first quarter by shooting those super shots and then I think the momentum flowed throughout the whole team.”
“The small things are a big part of why we win or lose these sorts of games. I think in those dying minutes, especially going into that last quarter, we did everything we said we wanted to do before the game.
“We just threw ourselves into that game fully… when we really needed those big moments, there was someone that was courageous enough in our team and went and got it.”
With over 12,000 fans there to get behind WA’s girls, the crowd played an integral role as the twelfth man.
“We love playing in front of the Green Army and it’s such a momentum shift as well… it definitely makes a big difference.”
“As each quarter went on, it kind of got louder and louder… towards the end in that fourth quarter, I think it kind of felt like the arena was shaking”
They are now faced with the task of heading over east to play the Vixens on Saturday, hoping to book their spot in the grand final where the Thunderbirds await.
