Peel Thunder put on a “frightening” performance against East Perth in Mandurah on the weekend, with 15 AFL-listed players ensuring a 142-44 victory.

Post-game confusion set in about the rules surrounding stars from the top level.

East Perth player Corey Watts was on the field last Saturday and claimed that there is no rule that AFL-aligned WAFL teams must include only a certain number of AFL-listed players on game day.

“I just want to clear that up, because it seems to be a bit of a rumour that it’s this hard rule that they can only have 14 players during the season, and that is not the case whatsoever”, he said on WAFL World Wednesday afternoon.

“At the end of the day, if Peel wants to, there is no rule by the commission to say that it can’t be 17 Fremantle players running around if it fits in their points cap”.

When he spoke to his co-hosts on the show, he was met with surprise, revealing that there were no rules on the matter.

“This is breaking news. I always understood that was a rule of the commission, that you could only have a max of 14”, Chris Mitsopoulos responded.

Peel Thunder undoubtedly made use of their 15 AFL-listed players, securing a monster win over East Perth.

Mitsopoulos was in attendance and was rather surprised by what he witnessed down in Mandurah Saturday afternoon.

“That was a frightening performance by Peel Thunder. Frightening for every other team in the competition, if they play as they did in that first half in particular, they’ll be hard-pressed to lose another game”, he said on WAFL World.

Corey Watts said East Perth analysed the game on Monday.

“It was difficult to watch”, he said, before adding that it was quite a challenging weekend with lots of learnings taken from the game.

After two weekends of byes in the WAFL, all teams are playing this upcoming weekend again.

Peel Thunder takes on West Perth, while Subiaco is playing Swan Districts, Perth goes head-to-head with South Fremantle, and East Fremantle plays Claremont.

They all play on Saturday, while East Perth and West Coast play on Friday evening.
