East Fremantle have downed South Fremantle in this season’s second edition of the Fremantle WAFLW derby, coming away with a 9-point win on Friday night.

It was sweet vengeance for the Sharks, who painfully fell three points short in round one’s clash, but this time around, they prevailed in miserable conditions. 

East Fremantle were down by five points at half time, but a two-goal second half, while holding South Fremantle to one behind, was enough to get them over the line. 

Eve Wilson-Sieber was responsible for two of East Fremantle’s goals, while Angelique Raison kicked one. For South Fremantle, Shannyn Pomersbach kicked their only goal. 

East Fremantle defender Madison Evans was outstanding, finishing on 21 disposals, including 20 kicks, and keeping league-leading goalkicker Zoe Huggett goalless.  Mylee Leitch (19 disposals, four inside 50s) and Noa McNaughton (18 disposals, nine tackles) also played well. 

Some notable performances from South Fremantle came from young gun Renee Morgan (26 disposals, nine tackles) and Tahleah Mulder (23 disposals, eight tackles), while Bailey Hunt laid an impressive 13 tackles. 

EAST PERTH 2.2 (14) def by. WEST PERTH 6.5 (41)

West Perth were simply too good for East Perth, smashing their Perth Derby rivals by 27 points in wet and wild conditions. 

Heading into halftime, the Falcons held a 13-point advantage, which they were able to extend by a further three goals after keeping the Royals to one goal in the second half. 

West Perth’s Lexi Strachan was best on ground, having 24 disposals, six tackles and two goals to her name. Her teammate Hayley Bidefield also helped herself to two goals. 

Madison Dodd (26 disposals, eight tackles), Taylor Ferguson (23 disposals, six marks), and Emily Bennett (23 disposals, eight marks) were also key in the win. 

Meanwhile, Jess Verbrugge’s outstanding season continued, finishing with a match-high 28 disposals, while helping herself to seven tackles and four marks. 

Young gun Lucy Greenwood snagged one of East Perth’s two goals, with Neve McAlister kicking other. 

PERTH 3.3 (21) def by. SUBIACO 6.2 (38).

Subiaco have survived a scare from a fired-up Perth side but ultimately put them away to the tune of 17 points. 

The Demons got too close for comfort against Subiaco and even briefly entertained the idea

of a maiden win as they hit the front in the final quarter. But the top-ranked side pulled through, kicking three goals to secure the four points.   

Krstel Petrevski showed her class and was comfortably best on, winning 23 disposals, eight tackles and two goals. 

Paige Sheppard (24 disposals, eight tackles) and Lisa Steane (20 disposals, one goal) also impressed in Subiaco’s stacked midfield, while Olivia Wolmarans also kicked two goals.

But it was Holly Britton who had the most touches, finishing on 31 disposals and five tackles. Meanwhile, Sophie Williams and Fina Dethlefsen applied plenty of defensive pressure, laying a whopping 10 tackles each.

Other notable performances include Isabella Shannon (20 disposals, five tackles) and Mia Carlshausen (20 disposals, three marks). 

SWAN DISTRICTS 2.6 (18) def by. CLAREMONT 8.3 (51)

Claremont wrapped up the round’s action with a comfortable 33-point win against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval. 

The Tigers’ collective effort was too strong, despite a series of impressive individual performances from the Swans. The visitors kept the home side to one goal for three quarters, as they piled on the pain in their forward half. 

Matilda Sergeant (28 disposals, one goal) backed up last week’s dominant performance to finish as Claremont’s leading disposal getter. 

Sarah Viney also gave it her all, with 14 disposals and 14 tackles while up forward, Taylah Orzel and Megan Green combined for four goals. 

Swan Districts’ Carys D’Addario’s AFLW audition tape gained another strong performance, finishing on 29 disposals, four tackles and two marks. 

Jamie Henry was also stunned with 23 disposals and 11 tackles, while Indiana West and Emily McGuire were Swan Districts’ two goal scorers.
