This weekend in the WAFLW, the top-two battle heated up, with Claremont losing it’s first game of the season, allowing Subiaco to jump up to first place. Meanwhile, two sides found themselves goalless again.

PEEL THUNDER 0.1 (1) def by. EAST FREMANTLE 9.11 (65)
East Fremantle has left Peel Thunder with no answers after handing them a 64-point thumping at Lane Group Stadium.
It wasn’t the way Peel had planned to celebrate WAFLW/WAWFL veteran Krystal Carter’s 150th game, recording its second goalless game of the season.
And to add to Peel’s woes, two players finished the game with almost blank stat sheets, with only one tackle between the two.
East Fremantle were simply too strong, especially down in defence, where they kept the homeside to one rushed behind from their 16 inside 50 entries.
Down the other end, Chloe Reilly (16 disposals, 5 marks) and Anjelique Raison (15 disposals, 9 hit outs) played exceptionally, finishing on three goals each and were among the Sharks’ best.
Meanwhile, Noa McNaughton (23 disposals, 8 inside 50s), Ashleigh Gomes (19 disposals, 5 tackles) and Amber Kinnane (18 disposals, 10 tackles) were dominant through the middle and used the ball effectively.
Despite a heartbreaking loss, Peel stalwarts Chloe Wrigley (30 disposals, 6 tackles) and Ebony Dowson (25 disposals, 9 marks) class showed, finishing as top two disposal winners for the game.
SUBIACO 8.7 (55) def. BOORLOO 2.0 (12)
Subiaco has flexed their muscles against Boorloo (Perth), posting a 43-point win at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
With Claremont stumbling against South Fremantle, who caught them out two weeks ago, Saturday’s win saw them slide back up to first on the ladder.
Subiaco led siren-to-siren, despite some genuine competition from Boorloo, but Subiaco’s potent forward line was just too much for their defence to handle.
Former AFLW forward Aimee Schmidt and Chloe Shearing combined forces to kick three goals each, while Charlotte Tompkin (17 disposals, 6 marks, one goal) continues to build, putting up career-best numbers.
But once again, Subiaco’s midfield showed its class, with Dhara Kerr medal contender Krstel Petrevski posting 38 disposals and six marks, with Lisa Steane (31 disposals, 6 tackles) and Paige Sheppard (26 disposals, 6 tackles) offering crucial support.
For Boorloo, Isabella Shannon put up another superb display, finishing on 31 disposals, five marks and five tackles, with Holly Britton (25 disposals, 5 marks) also playing well.
Ruck Molly Warne also gave a noteworthy performance, winning 25 disposals, meanwhile Fina Dethlefsen and Amber Wyatt were responsible for the Demons’ two goals.
SWAN DISTRICTS 15.12 (13) def. EAST PERTH 0.1 (1)
Swan Districts went beserk to hand East Perth an ugly 101 point loss on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval.
This marks the third time East Perth has lost by more than 100 points in a game and is their third largest loss in club history. For the Swans, this is their largest win in club history.
East Perth fought hard all day to hit the scoreboard, with their only score coming in the final quarter, with Saffi Jennings kicking a behind.
But scoring wasn’t an issue for Swan Districts’ Taylah Edwards who kicked six goals to put her nine goals ahead in the Joanne Huggins medal. Summer Yarran also contributed four goals of her own.
Jamie Henry’s experience showed, finishing on 35 disposals, four tackles and three marks, while Summer Ajduk (20 disposals, 8 inside 50s) also got plenty of the ball.
With plenty of experience lost across the board for the Royals, Elly Sara held firm, with 20 disposals and five marks. Hayley O’Donnell (19 disposals, 2 tackles) also offered her support.
Sabella Banks also fought hard, laying a superb 10 tackles, along with 11 disposals, while ruck Lillian Ninyett (14 disposals, 11 hitouts, 4 inside 50s) did her best to drive the ball forward.
SOUTH FREMANTLE 5.5 (35) def. CLAREMONT 3.5 (23)
South Fremantle has claimed their second win against a top two side, snapping Claremont’s 10-game winning streak at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
The Bulldogs are becoming a deciding factor as the pointy end of the season approaches, beating the now-second placed Claremont by 12 points just weeks after handing Subiaco their first loss of the season.
Claremont were ahead at the main break, but South Fremantle came out swinging after half time, holding them goalless in the second half, while kicking those deciding three goals.
Tahleah Mulder was enormous for the Bulldogs, racking up 24 disposals, 12 tackles and four inside 50s, as was Hannah Burt, who also had 24 disposals.
Meanwhile Charlotte Vandenberg was tremendous in the ruck, winning 37 hit outs, ensuring her midfielders had first use of the ball.
Former AFLW listed players Matilda Sergeant (32 disposals, 6 disposals) and Jayme Harken (30 disposals, 12 tackles) did what they could to bring Claremont home, finishing as the top two disposal winners.
Sarah Viney provided plenty of defensive pressure, laying 13 tackles, while also winning 24 disposals. Winger Kate Orme (21 disposals, 5 inside 50s) also played well.
West Perth had the bye this week.
