This weekend in the WAFLW, Perth secured their second win, Swan Districts prevailed in a thriller, and East Fremantle caused a major upset against Claremont. 

Here is all the action from Round 15. 

WEST PERTH 5.12 (42) def by. EAST PERTH  1.3 (9)

West Perth has come out on top under the lights of HIF Health Insurance Oval, beating East Perth by 33 points on Friday night. 

Miserable conditions made it a scrappy affair as the two sides battled it out for Perth Derby bragging rights, with the more experienced West Perth side taking the honours. 

Wayward goal kicking plagued both sides, with West Perth not getting a major until the second quarter, while East Perth had to wait until the fourth for their’s. 

Hayley Bidfield was the Falcons’ best with 19 disposals, five marks and two goals, while Emily Bennett (21 disposals, 6 tackles) and Madison Dodd (20 disposals, 2 tackles) also played well. 

West Perth’s other goalkickers included Kayla Van Den Heever, Amy Fortescue and Sara Riou. 

Elly Sara played well for the losing side, winning 20 disposals and seven marks, as did Jorja Elisseou, who had 15 disposals and an impressive 10 tackles. 

The Royals only goal came off Taylor Drummond’s boot, while Hannah Trusso and Abby Critchell battled hard in defence all night. 

BOORLOO 5.12 (42) def. PEEL THUNDER 3.1 (19)

Perth has won its second game in club history after taking down Peel Thunder by 23 points at Mineral Resources Park. 

Sunday’s win marks the first time the Demons’ WAFL side has won at home, with their maiden win coming while on the road. 

And despite losing, Peel Thunder has responded well to last week’s heartbreak in which no player scored – their only point coming from a rushed behind. 

Dhara Kerr medal contender Isabella Shannon was a ball magnet, finishing on 37 disposals, with one goal and nine marks to got with it. 

She was backed up by Jasmine Single (24 disposals, 6 inside 50s), Gemma Dix (23 disposals, 5 marks) and Holly Britton (22 disposals, five marks), who also gave impressive performances.

Meanwhile, Chloe Wrigley notched up 28 disposals and 8 marks, while Cassie Davidson also played well to finish on 26 disposals and two goals. 

Kayla Bradshaw also gave a season-best performance, finishing on 25 disposals, five marks and three tackles. 

EAST FREMANTLE 4.6 (30) def. CLAREMONT 3.0 (18)

East Fremantle has caused a major upset to stun Claremont and defeat them by 12 points at Shark Park on Sunday. 

This win comes one week after Claremont’s undefeated streak came to an end against South Fremantle, hoping to get their season back on track.  

Both sides traded blows in a low-scoring affair, but a gallant final quarter effort got the Sharks over the line, holding the Tigers scoreless, while booting 2.3 themselves. 

Ashleigh Gomes and Natasha Entwistle won heaps of the ball, both earning 21 disposals and 9 tackles each. 

Debutant Lana Fitzgerald also made a strong impression, finishing on 17 disposals and eight tackles, while Amber Kinnane kicked two goals from her 15 disposals. 

Both Claire Ortlepp (32 disposals, 12 tackles) and Matilda Sergeant (26 disposals, 7 marks) were  among Claremont’s best. 

Down back, Abby Maynard and Mackenzie Webb also held strong and did their best to thwart East Fremantle’s inside 50s entries. 

SWAN DISTRICTS 5.4 (34) def. SOUTH FREMANTLE 4.4 (28)

The battle for third and fourth heated up over the weekend, with Swan Districts triumphing over South Fremantle by one goal at Steel Blue Oval. 

South Fremantle came into the contest with shock wins against ladder-leaders Subiaco and Claremont, and were looking to take down Swan Districts who sit just above them in third.

But they couldn’t get the job down, with Swan Districts’ prevailling to keep themselves one win ahead of the charging Fremantle sides beneath them. 

Jamie Henry put on a clinic in the middle, finishing on 39 disposals, eight tackles and six inside 50s, powering her side to the win. 

Both Taya Fitzgerald (18 disposals, 7 inside 50s) and Kayley King (16 disposals, nine tackles) offered their support, while leading goalscorer Taylah Edwards and Adi Griffith kicked two goals each.

Madizen Wilkins gathered plenty of the ball for the losing side, finishing on 18 disposals and 11 tackles, with Hannah Burt and Tara Stribley also offering support. 

Meanwhile Alira Fotu hit the scoreboard twice, while Marie Polimeno (12 disposals, 11 tackles) was rewarded for her efforts with a goal.  

Subiaco had the bye this week.
