WA had a presiding win over Victoria in the One-Day Cup on Saturday, taking the victory by 8 wickets with 61 balls remaining.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, right arm medium-fast bowler Bryce Jackson bowled 4/40 off 10 overs to win him man of the match.
Victoria put up a score of 230/9 at the end of their 50 overs, with Campbell Kellaway knocking a century to put his team in a promising position.
It was Joel Curtis and Cameron Bancroft who batted WA to the win, hitting 91 and 70 respectively – Bancroft smashing a 4 off Todd Murphy to seal the victory.
SportFM spoke to WA wicketkeeper and batsman Joel Curtis this morning.
“I’ve loved batting on the WACA. It was a little bit two paced and up and down, probably a bit more in the first innings, but it flattened out and I think under the lights it starts skidding nicely,” he said.
Almost a month on from his broken hand with the Scorchers, Curtis seems to be playing through the pain and finding good form for WA.
“I’m not sure if it’s still fractured or not, but I’ve been playing with a splint on my hand which hasn’t given me any issues at all since it’s happened. I think it’s pretty much healed now, but yeah, no issues from that end.”
Sam Fanning looked promising on the weekend, hitting 31 off 31 after almost scoring his maiden century against Victoria in their recent 4-day match.
“We’ve batted a lot together in club cricket for Perth and we sort of complement each other pretty well,” said Curtis.
“He had a good innings and no doubt he will set himself up for the next two games to do that again.”
WA’s domestic season finishes with two games on the road in the red ball Sheffield Shield competition.
They take on Queensland before travelling to Sydney to finish their season.
