Fremantle forward Jye Amiss says he is impressed with top draftee Murphy Reid after his composed performance in the Dockers’ 16-point win over the Bulldogs.

Reid has strung together a series of outstanding performances within his short four-game career, with last weekend’s game making another strong impression.

The 18-year-old played with maturity in the dying stages to hold off a late surge from the Western Bulldogs, finishing with 16 touches and a goal.

Despite a solid start to his AFL career, Reid has gone another week without a Rising Star Nomination but has earned praise from his fellow teammates.

“He’s come in, and he’s obviously playing his role really, really well,” Amiss told Sports Breakfast.

“He showed bits through pre-season and stuff. Now that he’s out there on the big stage, it’s composure and stuff that he does with the ball. It’s very impressive.”

Despite having a quiet day on the scoreboard, Amiss was also crucial during the last five minutes to keep the charging Bulldogs at bay.

He was involved in the passage of play, along with Reid, which created a stoppage and goal to put them ahead on the scoreboard before the siren went.

Reflecting on the impact, he said he found ways to have a meaningful impact on the game relyingng on goals.

“There’s always different ways you can impact on a game, whether that’s in the contest, when in your half, you can bringing it to the front, especially in critical moments like that,” he said.

“At times in games where you can pressure and stuff like that that you don’t really get a stat for, but we value really highly here at the club.

“It was good to be able to contest and get the four points.”

Freo now have two wins on the trot ahead of this weekend’s Gather Round clash against Richmond in Adelaide.

It could have been three wins, had they not faded away late against Sydney in Round 2 – an issue that also trailed them throughout their 2024 too.

However, Amiss said being able to hold on and win late against the Bulldogs is something the Dockers can take into future games this year.

“Definitely a little bit of confidence; obviously, we want to be able to finish off games,” he said.

“I saw on the weekend we did a lot right, whether it was keeping the ball skinny or just an improvement in that area.

“Hopefully, we can take that forward to games of there’s games later on the year that are tight like that.”
