South Fremantle will unveil they’re 2025 premiership flag at their first home game for the 2026 WAFL season on Saturday when they take on Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
CEO Cam Britt said the unfurling will be done in eye-catching style, and he joined Sports Breakfast this morning.
“It’s a really important and special day for us this Saturday… it’s our flag unfurl and our first home game from a WAFL men’s standpoint for season 2026, so it’s jam packed,” he said.
“I have to say we’re going to unfurl our flag in a really impactful way and that’ll be courtesy of three highly talented members of the Perth skydive display team who will be bringing our flag down from the skies above.
“They’ll land at centre field to hand it over to past Premiership stars Brock Higgins and Toby McGrath who will walk our flag to our members wing and effectively present it to our membership and our fan base because we always say it’s their club, their success, their premiership flag.”
A win on Good Friday over Swan Districts sees the Dogs off to a good start in their mission of defending their 2025 flag, triumphing in a 45 point victory.
Five debutants led by Lucas Robinson began their WAFL League careers over the weekend, with Robinson racking up 27 disposals to make a statement to AFL recruiters.
“Lucas Robinson, the 18-year-old, he played in the midfield. He’s a big bodied player out of our talent pathway and I reckon he probably won’t be in the WAFL competition for too much longer if he keeps those sorts of performances up for the balance of the year.”
“I thought our Good Friday performance was really solid. We took a little while to get the engine to full revs but when it did come, we played our way and were able to certainly extend that lead and kick away significantly.”
Leading the goal kicking surge were key forwards Trey Ruscoe and Jordan Boullineau, leaving the field with four and five goals respectively.
Roan O’Hehir did some scoreboard damage out of the midfield kicking a goal to go with his 24 touches for the day, while Jake Florenca and Isaiah Winder added to the midfield dominance with 28 and 30 disposals each.
Hamish Free dominated the ruck throughout the day, collecting 44 hit outs to carry the tally to 54-25.
The Dogs face the Demons in their first home game of the season this Saturday at 1:40pm.
