Subiaco’s Taj Schofield says he’s glad to have a consistent run of game this season after overcoming an unlucky streak of hamstring injuries in the last few years.

Hamstring problems have been a recurring issue for Schofield over the last 18 months, however, since returning in round 7 he’s been a mainstay and solid contributor to Subiaco’s side.

With an average of 15 touches, 28 tackles and marks, and eight goals, Schofield is back on track this season and feels his troubles are behind him.

“Obviously it wasn’t the start I was after at the start of the year but it’s good now to get some consistent games in,” he told SportFM.

“I just see confidence back in my body to allow me to just go out there and just play footy.”

“Now it’s more about just staying on top of my strengths – my high-speed running and that’s something we saw as an opportunity for me to do a bit more of.

This weekend Subiaco will face a mighty challenge from Swan Districts, who are in strong form and vying for a top two finish, at Bassendean Oval.

The Black Ducks have won four of their last five games, only a draw last weekend against South Fremantle ruining their winning streak.

With plenty of finals implications awaiting Swan Districts should they lose, Schofield is confident Subiaco can challenge the in-form side.

“I think our best footy can compete with the better teams. We’ve seen it this year,” he said.

“Swans are probably up there with the better teams and they’re in some good form.

“They’ve got good players and some speed across the ground as well, so we’re going to have to be on our A -game”.

Subiaco’s finals chances are slim, sitting in seventh place on five wins and nine losses with three more rounds to go.

However, Subiaco has delivered exceptional performances against top side Peel Thunder – beating them on both occasions and thus proving their best is good enough to be competitive.

Schofield believes a lack of full four-quarter efforts has negatively influenced Subiaco’s position, and that they potentially should be higher had they performed throughout each match.

“It is a little bit frustrating because we have shown in beating Peel twice that our best is good enough to match those top teams,” he said.

“We’ve had a few close games where we just quite haven’t yet played for the full four quarters and I think that’s been the main thing across the whole year.

“Week to week and even in games we’ve shown that we can play good footy but we unfortunately haven’t done it long enough.

“When the comp’s so tight and all teams are pretty good, you have to be playing well for four quarters and we haven’t been able to do that for long enough across the year.”

Swan Districts vs Subiaco will be broadcast live on SportFM from Bassendean Oval this Saturday afternoon.
