SportFM’s in depth and quality WAFL coverage was rewarded on Wednesday night after it was named Best WAFL coverage at the 2025 WA Football Media Guild Awards.

The award named after founding Chairman Colin Minson was presented at Optus Stadium in front of WA Football media pundits, WA Football media greats and club officials.

SportFM cemented it’s commitment to promoting the competition this season increasing WAFL World to Monday and Wednesday nights with a rotating panel of hosts including Jacob Landsmeer, Matt Grubelich, Chris Mitsopolous, John Townsend, Corey Watts and Brett Raponi.

This provided great insight and analysis into the WAFL competition on a weekly basis taking the listener inside the game and a number of the big stories throughout the season.

The station also doubled down on it’s broadcasts at the footy each weekend calling 30 WAFL matches throughout the season and for the first time calling 18 WAFLW matches on Sunday afternoons.

Flagship shows Sports Breakfast, The Sports Connection and Sports Drive also provided daily interview totalling over 100 for fans to consume to stay in touch with their local club and 66 WAFL and WAFLW articles were published via the SportFM website.

SportFM was further recognised after claiming the Best Radio News Story for season 2025 “Salecic sacked” following the explosive hour of WAFL World that featured an interview with outgoing West Perth Coach Jason Salecic and shortly after his ex-wife Katie ringing into the show to criticise the Falcons for their handling of his departure.

SportFM passes on it’s thank you to Peel Thunder, East Fremantle, South Fremantle, Subiaco, Perth, Swan Districts and East Perth for supporting our coverage this season. We also thank the WAFL Competitions Team for their contribution both on-air and off-air to ensure fans were kept in the know in relation to competition matters.

We also pass on a sincere thanks to our coverage sponsors who without them it would not be possible to continue to provide the level of coverage to the WAFL that we do.
