SOUTH FREMANTLE 3.4 (22) def by. PERTH 5.4 (34)

Perth have achieved a landmark milestone in club and WAFLW history after securing their first club win against South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Sunday afternoon’s 12-point win makes them the only club to have won a game in their inaugural WAFLW season – a significant moment for WA women’s footy.

Perth’s elusive maiden win has been inching closer and closer in previous weeks, being competitive and even leading at points, but falling short when the final siren came.

Taya Strickland was instrumental in the win, kicking three goals, while Jasmine Single produced a career-best performance, winning 29 disposals and six tackles.

Other notable performances came from Isabella Shannon (21 disposals, nine tackles) and Jorja Haines (17 disposals, seven tackles).

Tahleah Mulder was the Bulldogs’ strongest with 30 disposals and 13 tackles, with Annalie Polimeno (16 disposals, one goal), Jasmine Bazeley (12 disposals, 11 tackles) and Tara Stribley (12 disposals, six tackles) providing support.

Polimeno, Madison Hadley and Zoe Huggett each kicked one goal for the Bulldogs.

SUBIACO 5.10 (40) def. EAST FREMANTLE 4.4 (28)

Subiaco are looking unstoppable after recording yet another win this season, beating East Fremantle by 12 points at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

But the margin was much narrower than it should have been, with Subiaco wasting several scoring opportunities, kicking a wayward 5.10 compared to East Fremantle’s 4.4.

Paige Sheppard delivered as usual, with 31 disposals, five tackles and seven inside 50s, while Krstel Petrevski (23 disposals, three inside 50s) and Lisa Steane (20 disposals, eight tackles) were also impactful.

Up forward, Aimee Schmidt kicked two goals, while Charlotte Tompkin, Hayley Corlett and Chloe Shearing were the other goalkickers.

East Fremantle’s Amber Kinnane was its top disposal getter, with 19 touches, while Jae Flynn (17 disposals, five tackles), Madison Evans (17 disposals, three tackles) and Siena Jezierski-Brown (16 disposals, three tackles) all played well.

Sarah Wielstra booted two goals, with Leanna Gubbins and Anjelique Raison the other two goal scorers.

PEEL THUNDER 5.9 (39) def. EAST PERTH 1.7 (13)

Peel Thunder responded to a series of heavy losses with a confident 26-point win over East Perth at Lane Group Stadium.

The players will regain some confidence from this win after a difficult two-game run against competition heavyweights Subiaco and Claremont, where they kicked a combined 142 points to Peel’s 18 points.

Peel’s core of Chloe Wrigley, Ebony Bilcich and Ebony Downson all had a huge say in the win, with Wrigley the most impressive on paper, recording 26 disposals, five tackles and four marks.

The Thunder also had five goal kickers – Krystal Carter, Mia Van Kleef, Tayla Cooper, Holly Bilcich and Lucy Kane, who had one each.

Meanwhile, East Perth had to navigate life without captain Jess Verbrugge, who was recruited by Essendon last week, making her the first Royal to make an AFLW list.

Layla Firns (18 disposals, three marks) and Hayley O’Donnell (17 disposals, two tackles) stood up in their skipper’s absence, while Taylah Suda was their only goal scorer.

WEST PERTH 3.3 (21) def. SWAN DISTRICTS 8.6 (54).

Swan Districts defeated an undermanned West Perth side in a highly anticipated battle between third and fourth at HIF Health Insurance Oval last Saturday.

West Perth struggled with a lack of on-field experience, with captain Emily Bennett one of several key omissions after being on the receiving end of a heavy tackle the week prior.

Taylor Ferguson, Lexi Stratchen and Cara Dziegielewski were also benched, with a host of younger players replacing them in the side.

But Swan Districts were also without key players, but regained the experience of Jaime Henry, who was outstanding with 20 disposals and 15 tackles. Ruck Lauren Quaife also impressed with 46 hitouts, giving her midfield priority use of the ball.

Kayley King was also impressive, with 21 disposals, three inside 50s and two goals, while Taylah Edwards kicked three goals to extend her lead in the leading goalkickers race.

For West Perth, Megan Norbury and Madison Dodd were the team’s leading disposal getters with 13 each, while Sara Riou kicked two goals.

Claremont had the bye this week.
