This weekend in the WAFLW, the top four has been set, with Claremont claiming the minor premiership in a dominant fashion. Meanwhile, we say goodbye to four teams with finals starting this weekend

Here is all the action from Round 18. 

WEST PERTH 8.7 (55) def. SOUTH FREMANTLE 6.7 (43)

West Perth did all they could to keep their finals hopes alive, claiming a 12-point win over South Fremantle at HIF Health Insurance Oval on Friday Night. 

The Falcons did what they had to do, knowing a win meant a chance to claim the final spot in the top four. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, and they missed finals by 3.25 per cent. 

But they did everything they could to give themselves the best chance, getting away to a strong start and fighting hard to keep distance between themselves and South Fremantle all evening. 

The charge was led by young guns Mia Russo (21 disposals, 5 tackles and Lexi Strachan (24 disposals, one goal), who were the top disposal winners of the night. 

Megan Norbury and Kayla Van Den Heever also had plenty of impact on the scoreboard, kicking two goals apiece. 

For South Fremantle, Bailey Hunt was their best player, with 14 disposals, four inside 50s and a goal. Up forward, Shannyn Pomersbach kicked two goals. 

Tahleah Mulder (13 disposals, 5 tackles) and Hannah Burt (12 disposals, 10 hitouts) also finished their seasons off with strong performances. 

EAST PERTH 3.5 (23) def by. PERTH 7.7 (49)

Perth has wrapped up its maiden season on a positive note, beating wooden spooners East Perth by 23 points at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday.  

Coach Jessica Sedunary’s Demons have recorded the most successful WAFLW debut season, winning three games. Every other expansion club failed to win a game in their first season.

But for East Perth, they finish the season at the bottom of the ladder, claiming their second wooden spoon in three seasons. 

Perth co-captains Isabella Shannon (23 disposals, 8 tackles) and Holly Britton (22 disposals, 3 tackles) finished off their outstanding seasons in style, while Jasmine Single (19 disposals, 6 tackles, one goal) offered support through the middle. 

In the ruck, Molly Warne (42 hitouts, 10 disposals) did her best to give her midfielders first use, while Jorja Haines kicked two goals in the forward half. 

WA Under 18s representative Lucy Greenwood was East Perth’s best player, finishing on 24 disposals and three inside 50s, while Summer Mollross laid an impressive 17 tackles. 

Brianna Hyde (11 disposals, 2 inside 50s) and Kahra Sprlyan (12 disposals, 2 tackles) also gave their all in their final game for the year.

CLAREMONT 1.3 (34) def. SUBIACO 0.1 (1)

Claremont has snatched away the minor premiership from Subiaco in dominant fashion, after handing them a 33-point thrashing at Revo Fitness Stadium. 

Subiaco and Claremont have been the standard all year, sitting equal on points but Subiaco ahead on percentage. Both teams knew the winner of this clash would claim top spot. 

That honour went to Claremont, who put their foot on Subiaco’s throat and held them to one behind from 17 inside 50s – courtesy of Olivia Wolmarans.

Claremont’s experienced midfield, led by Dhara Kerr Medallist Jayme Harken (27 disposals, 4 tackles), dominated Subiaco’s with Sarah Viney (25 disposals, 17 tackles) and Matilda Sergeant (23 disposals, nine tackles) also playing well. 

Juliet Kelly also put up another strong showing upon return from state representative duties, finishing on 20 disposals and 11 tackles. 

Subiaco’s top disposal winner was Layla Quinn-Schofield, who had 21 disposals and nine tackles off half forward, while Paige Sheppard and Lisa Steane fought their hardest, with a combined 32 disposals and 24 tackles to show. 

Hayley Corlett (17 disposals, 5 tackles) and Eva Popovsky (8 disposals, 10 tackles) also battled their way through the rainy conditions served up on Saturday.

The two sides will come up against each other again in this weekend’s second semi-final at Revo Fitness Stadium – the winner advancing to the Grand Final. 

SWAN DISTRICTS 2.3 (15) def. EAST FREMANTLE 1.5 (11)

Swan Districts have wrestled their way to a four-point win against East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval over the weekend. 

The two sides slogged it out in the miserable, muddy conditions dished up on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a low-scoring affair with just three goals kicked in four quarters.

Despite the loss, East Fremantle did what they had to, keeping their percentage above West Perth, who won on Friday night to level out their points. 

Kayley King mastered the conditions and notched up 21 disposals, eight tackles and one goal, as did Luka Davis, who also had 21 disposals and nine tackles

Although her disposal count was below her usual standards, Jaime Henry (18 disposals, 13 tackles) also played well, while Emily McGuire bagged one goal. 

For East Fremantle, they brought the pressure across the board, led by Amber Kinnane, who laid an impressive 23 tackles from 14 disposals. Chloe Reilly also played well with 18 disposals and 12 tackles, and Siena Jezierski-Brown kicked their only goal. 

Leanne Gubbins (19 disposals, 6 tackles) and Ashleigh Gomes (18 disposals, 7 tackles) also gave notable performances.
